The Tower that went for a Walk

by Jesper Pedersen

/
1.

about

The martello tower in Frederikshavn, Denmark, was built 1687 as a part of Fladstrand Fortress.

In 1974-75 the tower, was moved 270 meters from it’s original placement to where the tower stands today. In the piece I fantasise over the history of the tower and that it might move somewhere else in the future, since it already moved once before. It travels to China and later through space and ends up on a beach on a planet in a far away galaxy.

The work was originally created for 4-channel playback and was premiered at the tower August 5th 2014.

The piece was supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
